Some time ago I did a presentation on SharePoint 2010. One of the attendees was a representative of the “Corporate Communications” department. When asked for his reason for attending the presentation, his answer was (and I quote):

The intranet is ours. All content published there must be approved by corporate communications

Funny how organisations do not seem to get a grip on the changing reality. Content is no longer just governed by “corporate communications”. In the enterprise 2.0 world, content is ours as well. And we share it using blogs, wiki’s and in communitees.

I encourage people from corporate communications to attend meetings on the intranet in general and SharePoint 2010 in particular. But hopefully they will shift their attitude from “it’s ours” to “it’s all of us”.
