Using the new Lync client to connect to Office Communications Server 2007

Here’s the deal. I’ve got the new Lync client. Which is great!! But we’re still running OCS2007 internaly.

So I can only use Lync to connect to Office365. That’s a bit of a bummer.

But, it can be done! You can connect Lync to OCS and ignore the error-message.

Just add the following setting to your registry:

Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator
Name:  DisableServerCheck
Type: DWORD
Value: 1 (00000001)

Please note: this is a new registry setting in the Policies\Microsoft hyve. So add the Communicator key and then the DWORD.

Of-course, some of the Lync specific functions won’t function. But chat, audio, video and application sharing works perfect!
